Facts for the Month

There is more to working out than muscles and sweating.  In addition to increasing bone density, muscle tone and self esteem, keeping the body active helps promote better brain function through deeper sleep.  The Mayo Clinic (2009) reported that regular exercise can be a key to helping you fall asleep faster and stay asleep.  The deeper sleep can improve you mood, mental clarity and concentration.   Furthermore, among the eight not-so-typical benefits of physical activity, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention (2010) pointed out that such activity can help reduce your risk of some cancers,  improve your ability to perform your daily duties and increase your chances of living longer.  Lastly, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology indicated that there a nine common psychological benefits attained from exercising.  Most notedly, the reduction in stress and your improved ability to deal with stress, increased satisfaction with oneself, greater confidence in your physical dexterity and a decrease in symptoms associated with depression.
